Tree TSAR is developed and operated by Phytonomen LLC, a for-profit company. Sponsorships support the research, writing, data work, editorial review, illustration, hosting, and continuing revision required to build a rigorous public botanical reference.
Sponsorships are not charitable donations and should not be assumed to be tax-deductible. Prospective sponsors should consult their own tax or financial adviser about the treatment of a sponsorship.
Suggested Baseline Sponsorships

- Family Page — Suggested Baseline Sponsorship: $500+
- Supertaxonomy Page — Suggested Baseline Sponsorship: $250+
These amounts are baseline suggested sponsorships, not fixed prices.
Large, iconic, taxonomically complicated, historically important, or research-intensive groups may require substantially greater sponsorship. Tree TSAR does not publish an upper limit for such work; prospective sponsors are encouraged to inquire before sponsoring one of these groups.
General Support
General sponsorship helps sustain Tree TSAR as a whole rather than prioritizing a particular taxon. It can support literature access, editorial infrastructure, data maintenance, hosting, illustrations, and revisions across the project.
- Project Support: Supporters may sponsor Tree TSAR generally without requesting a particular taxon page.
- Requested Priorities: A sponsor may ask that development of a particular taxon be considered as a priority, subject to available evidence, editorial readiness, scope, and scheduling.
- Contributed Expertise: Contributors may also inquire about providing relevant literature, images, data, or specialist knowledge for independent editorial review.

Visitors may provide general support independently of sponsoring a particular taxonomic page. General contributions help support the research, writing, literature review, data development, and technical work behind Tree TSAR. Choose an amount starting at $1.99. The Stripe payment page suggests $10.00, and visitors may choose a larger amount.

- Privacy: Sponsors may request that their support remain private.
Scientific and Editorial Independence
Sponsorship may prioritize development of a requested taxon, but it does not purchase a predetermined treatment or result.
- Scientific Conclusions: Sponsorship does not purchase or direct scientific conclusions.
- Authorship: Sponsorship does not confer scientific or editorial authorship.
- Classification Decisions: Sponsorship does not control accepted taxa, ranks, circumscriptions, synonymy, or phylogenetic interpretation.
- Common-Name Decisions: Sponsorship does not control which common names Tree TSAR adopts, qualifies, or declines to use.
- Editorial Control: Sponsorship does not confer approval rights or editorial control over a page.
- Publication Readiness: Tree TSAR may delay, revise, narrow, or decline a requested treatment when the evidence, source material, project scope, or editorial standards require it.
